Africa Dingaka Organisation are in a fight against fake abogobela and those who take children under the age of 18 for ukuthwasa.

These izangoma say they stand in good faith and represent good traditional healers.

They met at Bosplaas in Hammanskraal, Tshwane, on Wednesday, 10 July.

They said izangoma are part of the community and will treat them in a dignified manner.

President of the African Dingaka Organisation, Dr Andrew Somo said they are bothered by izangoma who take children for ukuthwasa without their parents' permission.

"If a child is bothered by amadlozi while at school, they must treat them and wait for the child to be matured, and then the child can take a journey of ukuthwasa," Somo said.

He said that their worry is that children are telling elders their secrets, which is not right.

Somo said they deal with a person who has a calling and not fake gobelas who are in a money-making scheme.

"We suspend a gobela who doesn’t respect the tradition. When you have tlof-tlof with a thwasa, amadlozi leave the person and they'll be angry," he said.

He called on other traditional healer organisations to monitor fake gobelas and must be aware of magicians and those are not traditional healers.

"We encourage all gobelas to register with organisations and have certificates," he said.

Leader of the Traditional Healers Organisation, John Sithole said they are working well in their forum called Moretele Traditional Health Practitioners' Forum.

"People are reporting cases to us and we deal with them because we're against fake gobelas," Sithole said.

He said the law must protect patients and amathwasa.

Traditional healer Thomas Nkwinika, leader of the Thusanang Traditional and Faith Healers Association, said: "Our work is to protect patients, community, and make sure gobelas are not overcharging clients."
